胡斐和程靈素準備抬著馬春花火化，發現程靈素的邪惡同門石萬嗔、慕容景岳和薜鵲乘他們不在時躲在屋裡，在馬春花屍身和衣服上都塗了劇毒。胡斐爲保護程靈素，身中無藥可解的劇毒。程靈素用嘴吸出胡斐的毒血，以自己的性命救回胡斐。程靈素彌留之際，向胡斐示愛，並設局將謀害他們的石萬嗔等三人毒死或毒盲。程靈素的慘死，令胡斐萬分悲痛。胡斐欲將程靈素的骨灰埋在父母墳旁，成為一家人，結果遇到苗人鳳妻子南蘭。田歸農來尋南蘭，胡斐躲到墓碑後。南蘭離開後，圓性忽然而至，對著墓碑吐露心聲，胡斐聽見，從墓碑後走出。其時圓性受了重傷，還是趕來告訴他，田歸農在此埋伏。胡斐和圓性正欲離去，田歸農和福康安的手下已圍住他們，胡斐空手入白刃，但寡不敵眾被擒。在危急時刻，南蘭再次現身，求田歸農讓她在胡斐臨死前跟他說幾句話，並允許胡斐先將程靈素的骨灰埋了。南蘭暗中告訴胡斐，墓碑後埋著寶刀。當年正是因這冷月寶刀，苗人鳳才救下南蘭，並與其結成夫妻，最後亦因此刀而分離。胡斐假意掩埋程靈素的骨灰，掘出寶刀，以胡家刀法向田歸農等人反擊，結果重創田歸農和福安康手下。
